Page 2 Leg Preparations
Thank you for taking the time to walk through the build of my new computer table.
I decided on a table instead of a fancy desk & hutch or armoire. I expect this
build to take several weeks due to my committments as senior everything now
in my business.
The first stage of the build will be the turning of the legs on the lathe
I've chosen for my table.
Since I'll be painting & distressing the legs and aprons I'm using whatever I could
find in our shop to make the legs and table aprons. The table top will be made out of Maple.

In these two photos I'm sizing the leg blanks down to 3 1/4 inches. The actual width
of the leg is 2 3/4 inches but I have to allow a wider leg blank to get the parts of the
leg round before I turn the leg profile. When I finished turning the legs I resized
the legs to 2 7/8 inches. The extra 1/8" on the leg made it look a little better for me.

After sizing the leg blanks on the table saw I wanted to remove the saw marks.
I do this with old wooden hand planes . I do have a nice woodworking bench but it seems
sometimes I do a lot of work on my table saw.

I use a block plane to clean-up the saw marks left on the ends of the legs where
the table saw didn't do such a good job. Next I mark the centerline of the leg
blanks for mounting in the lathe.
The next page will be the turning of the legs on my lathe.
